My life has been centered on the Imperial Valley. I was born in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico and raised in Calexico. I graduated from Aurora High School and Attended IVC and became Licensed Realtor and recently received my Notary Public Commission from State of California.
I have been blessed with three wonderful children, Luz Aida, Eva Isabel, and Alex and also proud to say I am a grandfather to Omarcito. My family was part of the pioneer families in Mexicali and Calexico through business and real estate investments. This family experience has driven my local business ownership for the past twenty-five years. My personal company, AP Asset Management consults, manages, and advertises commercial, residential and industrial real estate investments from clients in China, Canada, Iraq, Mexico and the United States.
I have been honored to receive many awards and recognitions for my government and community efforts. I was awarded by the Vice President of Imperial Valley College in 1999, for “going far and beyond the ordinary” during my responsibility as Work Force Development Coordinator and received Junior Achievement’s Presidents Education Award in 2001.
I was elected for the Calexico City Council in 2002 and appointed Mayor in 2006. The City of Mexicali presented me with their key in 2005 for my support to their development. Also, I was recognized by the Industrial Economic Commission of Mexico for my efforts in creating “strong business alliances” in 2005 and by the General Council of Mexico for my “construction of a strong Mexican-American relationship” in 2007. In 2006, I was recognized as “Man of the Year” by Senator Denise Moreno Ducheny, District 40 and Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia, District 80, and recognized by the Mexican Consulate for “strengthening our border trade alliance”.
It has been a personal honor to serve my community with non-governmental positions. The Bishop Jose Isidro Guerrero Macias named me International Director for the Food Bank in 2005 and I also supported the Calexico PAL in 2006 on their efforts to maintain an open office at our City. My greatest desire is to empower people “because people empower people”
